What is a Rally?

If you've never been on a rally…….

Why not come and give it a go for a weekend with the Derbyshire Centre.

If you are unsure what a rally is it is a gathering of friendly people from all walks of life, ranging from families with children, couples, retired people, people on their own and people with their dogs They all have a common interest in wanting to make the most of the time, spent in their caravan or motor home.

Rallies are usually held over a weekend, they run from Friday until late afternoon Sunday. Many rallies are held in quiet fields. Some are for longer and may be further afield or even abroad. Others are held in exclusive locations where you would not normally be allowed to visit with your caravan, such as in the grounds of Hardwick Hall, Newstead Abbey and the Chatsworth Estate. See the Rally Programme for a summary of the rallies being held by the Derbyshire Centre this year. Holiday and New Year rallies are also held during periods such as; Bank Holidays, half term or in the summer.

Some rallies have organised walks, games, sporting activities, evening socials with quizzes and entertainment on offer for you, although it is entirely your choice if you want to take part, others are quiet and relaxed. We always enjoy a chat, having a few laughs and perhaps a drink or two, and it's a real opportunity to make new friends.

The rally programme is arranged by the Centre Officers and Committee and the rallies run by members all of whom are volunteers. They give up their time to provide enjoyment for you and it is their way of 'Putting something back' for the good times they have enjoyed.

The people that organise and run rallies are known as Rally Marshals, who are fellow ralliers. They will greet you when you arrive, explain the pitch choices, where the water and toilet disposal points are. On most rallies electric hook up is not available, however you will find that you can manage for the weekend comfortably using a leisure battery and gas. Some people choose to supplement their electricity with a portable solar panel. You will also need to use your own toilet facilities, however there is toilet emptying facilities and fresh water available.

'Flag', is normally held on Sunday morning, it is the formal part of the rally at which forthcoming rallies are advertised, rally marshals (the people who run the rally) thanked for all their hard work, and competition winners announced.

Prices obviously vary depending on the venue, but can be as low as £13 for the weekend. The optional social is charged for separately to cover any costs involved.

The Rally Marshalls will be available throughout the rally to make sure you get the most out of the rally and to answer any queries you may have.

So if you want to get more out of your caravan and the time spent in it, book on and give a Derbyshire rally a try. We can assure you will be made very welcome.

Firstly, you need to join the Caravan and Motorhome Club. Being a member of the Caravan and Motorhome Club entitles you to attend any rally held by any Centre, details of which can be found on the Caravan and Motorhome Club website or on other Centres' websites. You can register with any Centre (hopefully the Derbyshire Centre!) but you do not need to be a Centre member to try a rally.

On registering with us you will be sent a copy of the Derbyshire Centre Programme, which contains full details of all the rallies being held throughout the year by the Centre. Decide which rally you wish to attend and book online or post a booking form (downloaded from our website)to the Rally Marshal running the rally. Do not expect a reply but if you have any queries about the rally you can always phone or email the rally marshal. Then just turn up at the venue on the appointed day. Full directions to the rally site are on the PDF version of the rally programme and also on the website with a link to a map. The final part of the route will be marked with yellow/White DCC signs.
