Friday night saw us all in the party tents with music provided by the teenagers trying out their new equipment.

Saturday morning saw people brandishing saws, hammers, wheels and pieces of wood in all shapes and sizes.  There was a great deal of activity and super team work on the field and all ages joined in – I have never seen a rally field so busy.  We only just had time to stop to enjoy the cakes that had been kindly donated.

Saturday afternoon after all the mornings exertions nearly everyone took part in a game of rounders and then it was all hands on deck to construct the course ready for the mornings races.

Saturday evening saw us once again in the party tents but this time as well as music the marshals had laid on a quiz.

Sunday morning the sun was shining and several go karts had already had to be taken into the pits for modifications or repairs but the races were run – and even if a wheel did fall off every now and then the competitors carried on running around the track in true good natured Derbyshire spirit.

Trophies were awarded at flag to the winners of the race but I think we were all winners, the marshals for putting on such a great weekend, the go kart builders for persevering and showing such good team spirit, and the people who just turned out to support and help.

I for one look forward to a return next year for Scrapheap Challenge II.
