HINTS FOR RALLIERS

To attend a Rally

1. Complete the details requested on one of the Booking Slips in full.

2. Get the completed form to the appropriate Rally Marshal either by hand or by post. Make sure that the Marshal receives your slip at least a full week before the start of the Rally.

3. Only if the Rally is fully booked will you get a reply.

Getting to the Site

Brief instructions are given in the Rally Book. Confirm the directions on a map before setting off. Rally signs will be displayed near the site to assist you in finding the field, i.e. DERBY CC.

At the Rally Site

1. An envelope will be handed to you giving details of expenses to be paid, e.g. Rally Fee. Also included Is a plaque. (A plaque is a small decorative plastic token).

2. The fee is paid in cash to the Rally Marshal unless indicate otherwise in the Rally Book.

3. The Rally Marshals will either give you a choice of site, or designate a definite pitch for your caravan. It is emphasised that the Rally Marshals are in charge of the Rally, and their instructions must be followed.

4. The location of drinking water and the Elsan disposal pit will be indicated by the Rally Marshal.

5. It is essential to provide your own chemical sanitation at all Centre Rallies.

6. Levelling blocks may be required.

General

Any additional information will be included in your Rally envelope. Centre information is displayed on the Centre notice board sited on the flagpole. "Centre Flag" is a meeting of members attending the Rally, addressed by the Chairman, or one of his deputies, to thank the Rally Marshals, impart news of future rallies and the latest Centre information. Consult one of our Centre Marshals or Committee Members for any further information you may require.

To obtain a Rally Statistic, ralliers are required to spend at least 1 night in the caravan on a normal weekend rally.

All caravans must be parked with the front right hand comer by the peg (Inc. Continental vans) so that all tow bars are facing in the same direction. Cars are parked on the right hand site (left for continental vans). AT NO TIME MUST CARS OBSTRUCT THE LINES.

E-Coli

“We have been advised by The Caravan Club Headquarters about the risk of infection with E-coli from contact with animals or their faeces. The advice given is that farm animals should be kept off fields for 3 weeks prior to and during a caravan rally, all visible dung/faeces should be removed, preferably at the beginning of the 3 week period, and the grass should be mown and kept short and clippings removed before the fields are used. We are obliged to pass on this request to you and would ask that you please advise us if this will cause a problem.”

We have been advised by Caravan Club Headquarters about the risk of infection with E-coli from contact with animals or their faeces. Whilst as a Centre we will endeavour to use rally fields which the landowner does not use for animals there will be instances where this is not practical and as such the following precautions should be taken, at all times, to minimise the risk of e-coli:-

§      Do not drink from rivers or streams.

§       Ensure that animals have not been in contact with water taps, e.g. taps for water    troughs.

§      Avoid contact with animals wherever possible.

§      Avoid walking through areas contaminated with faeces or slurry liquid wherever      possible.

§       Keep out of areas not allocated to the rally.

§       Wash hands thoroughly before eating, drinking or smoking etc.

§       Clean off clothing, footwear or any items carried, which may have been in contact with the ground.”

Fire Extinguishers

Fire Extinguishers are to be found at the flagpole and are easy to use. The following are the simple instructions for their use: -

1.      – Release safety pin – pull

2.      – Lift hose out of “keep”

3.      – Squeeze handle to ensure operation (test)

4.      – Aim nozzle at base and the front of the fire pushing away from you

5.      – Ensure your escape route is not compromised

Should you discover a fire the procedure to be adopted is as follows:

1.      Raise the alarm

2.      Delegate someone to call the fire brigade (Even when the fire is out, their advice is invaluable)

3.      Evacuate all occupants and persons from the area.

4.      If the fire is still fairly small attempt to extinguish it with the appropriate fire fighting equipment only if it is safe to do so without endangering life and if confident of using the equipment correctly

5.      If the fire is not connected with the gas, get someone to turn off the gas, only if it is safe to do so without endangering life and if confident of using the equipment correctly

6.      In the event of a fire in the cylinder locker, preventing you from turning off the gas, the fire will have to be completely extinguished to get at the cylinder valve/regulator and turn it to the “off” position. If the fire is not completely extinguished a flashback can occur.

The procedure must not be attempted unless it can be done safely and without endangering life
